The Story of
Workphotos

Like many of the best apps in the world, WorkPhotos was born from a real problem: there wasn’t a simple and affordable app for managing photos at work. Read more about our story and how we came to be below.

From a workshop
to workphotos

Ross Somerville, who founded WorkPhotos, runs a fast-paced, chaotic engineering firm. West Scotland Engineering Co. has been in business for over 100 years, and the process for documenting work has long been manual, physical, and pen-and-paper.

Amid the noisy repair shop, the phone calls, and customer demands, a few questions kept nagging Ross:

  • "Have we done this job before?"

  • "When did we do it?"

  • "Which customer was it for?"

  • "Have we done a similar job before?"

  • "How can we prove this job was done correctly?"

Ross realized something crucial was missing from his team's day to day — organized photos of every job. He knew photographic evidence could save time, reduce mistakes, and help his team stay on track.

But the available tools weren’t cutting it. Using personal apps like WhatsApp was messy, and full-blown job management software was overkill. Nothing fit the needs of work teams that just needed to take photos of each job without using device storage.

That’s when the idea for WorkPhotos began to take shape.

The Vision Behind WorkPhotos

Ross’s vision for WorkPhotos was, and still is clear: a simple, effective app that allows teams to document and share each stage of their work. Whether you're fixing a machine, installing equipment, or handling any hands-on task, WorkPhotos is designed to keep everything organized and accessible. It’s like a WhatsApp group chat, but instead of endless scrolls of mixed-up images and personal chat, everything is organized job by job.

So, What’s Next?

The journey of WorkPhotos is just beginning. As we continue to grow, our goal is to make the app even more useful by integrating features like AI-driven image analysis to help teams find what they need even faster.

But at its core, WorkPhotos will always be about keeping it simple and making your work life easier.
